A perfectly preserved medieval walled town on the shores of Lake Murten, where the bilingual Fribourg-Bern border runs through the old town. The complete ring of rampart walls, walkable for their full length, dates to the 12th century. Every June, the town celebrates its victory over Charles the Bold in the 1476 Battle of Murten with a historic race to Fribourg.
